Then there were tv shows such as “The Vampire Diaries” and “The Originals” that recreated this idea that they had a switch that could turn off their emotions, turning them into a blood-thirsty, ravenous beast, or choose to keep their emotions on and feed but not kill. Throughout the years, I have seen a consistency in stories of vampires, most of them walking at night or draining people of blood being vicious beasts. This idea that no being whether supernatural or not can ever truly be “immortal” seems to make everything so much more realistic of an idea. I have read many vampire stories as well as watched different movies and shows on this supernatural being yet Octavia Butler creates a whole new perspective on them. One particular topic that is continuously brought up throughout the chapters is this idea of multiple symbionts (or human partners) to help sustain human and vampire life. ![]() The story of Shori (the main character), in the book Fledgling provides a very different yet interesting view into the world of vampires. ![]()
